This includes work spanning space domain awareness, space resiliency, mission autonomy, structures, sensors, and next‑generation space systems.
We are seeking a talented Back End Software Engineer to join our team in Chantilly, VA. This position will be 100% on-site.
Ideal Experience
- 2+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on backend, high‑performance, or systems‑level software.
- Advanced proficiency in Python, C++, and/or Rust, with demonstrated experience building high‑performance or low‑latency services
- Experience developing real‑time or near–real‑time processing pipelines, including deterministic execution, concurrency models, and multi‑threaded or multi‑process architectures.
- Strong understanding of GPU‑accelerated computation (CUDA, GPU kernels, or heterogeneous compute architectures)
- Experience implementing scalable Monte Carlo Analysis, evolutionary algorithms or large‑scale statistical simulation pipelines
- Expertise in networking and real‑time data transport, including UDP/TCP, Pub/Sub, binary serialization formats, high‑throughput messaging, and protocols for distributed simulation.
- Experience designing and implementing GraphQL and REST APIs, including schema design, data‑layer integration, and cross‑service contract management.
- Experience working with knowledge graph or graph‑centric architectures, ideally Neo4j/DGraph/ArangoDB or similar technologies, supporting large scale data management for use in physics based simulation workflows.
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and engineering rigor appropriate for aerospace/defense environments.
- U.S. Citizen; eligible for DoD Secret or TS/SCI clearance.
Desired Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience building real‑time simulation engines, physics‑based modeling tools, or digital engineering infrastructure.
- Strong familiarity with GPU computing (CUDA, Vulkan compute, OpenCL, HIP) and optimizing heterogeneous pipelines across CPU–GPU boundaries.
- Experience with distributed computation frameworks, job orchestration, or large‑scale Monte Carlo automation pipelines.
- Experience in high‑integrity or regulated domains (aerospace, defense, robotics), including security, compliance, or real‑time mission system constraints.
- Background in numerical simulation of spacecraft, vehicles, or sensor systems (orbital mechanics, RF propagation, structural/thermal models).
- Experience optimizing data ingestion and processing architectures for high‑rate sensor or telemetry data
- Experience developing tools or libraries used by multiple engineering teams
- Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with systems engineers, analysts, and modeling experts.
- Ability to support integration, testing, and operational validation of simulations with hardware or mission data.

Pay Rate
$102,000 - $140,000/year
How We Determine What We Pay (Compensation Philosophy)
Redwire determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for our locations throughout the US. We will evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index, in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.
For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
