Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician Supervisor – RF/Electronics & Environmental Test at our Longmont, CO facility. This working supervisor will lead a team of technicians responsible for RF hardware checkout, system bring-up, troubleshooting, and environmental qualification testing. The supervisor will plan and assign daily work, coordinate laboratory and test-resource priorities, ensure safe and disciplined execution, develop technician capability, and partner with engineering and program teams to deliver accurate, timely test results.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on RF performance and environmental test expertise with demonstrated front-line leadership. This person sets clear priorities, coaches employees, removes execution barriers, maintains test readiness and configuration discipline, and remains technically engaged when complex checkout or test issues require escalation.
Essential Functions
- Provide day-to-day supervision for a team of engineering technicians performing RF checkout and environmental testing.
- Plan, prioritize, assign, and monitor work across multiple programs; balance staffing, equipment, facilities, and schedule needs to meet commitments.
- Set clear performance expectations, provide regular coaching and feedback, support employee development, and address attendance, conduct, or performance concerns in partnership with management and Human Resources.
- Train and qualify technicians on RF checkout, environmental test processes, equipment operation, workmanship, safety, documentation, and configuration-control requirements; maintain an effective skills and cross-training plan.
- Lead daily coordination activities, communicate status and constraints, and escalate technical, resource, quality, or schedule risks with recommended recovery actions.
- Oversee safe, compliant execution of RF functional checkout, characterization, acceptance testing, and troubleshooting of assemblies and integrated systems.
- Oversee environmental test campaigns, including thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, and margin testing; coordinate readiness reviews, test setups, instrumentation, facility interfaces, and post-test inspections.
- Review test procedures and work instructions for clarity, completeness, safety, resource needs, and readiness before release or execution.
- Ensure test configurations, equipment calibrations, data capture, test logs, objective evidence, and as-run records are accurate, complete, and traceable.
- Serve as the first escalation point for test anomalies and hardware failures; lead disciplined troubleshooting, preserve evidence, coordinate containment, and support root-cause and corrective-action activities.
- Remain hands-on as needed with oscilloscopes, VNAs, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, power supplies, DMMs, environmental chambers, data-acquisition systems, and specialized fixtures.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance, calibration, tool control, consumables, laboratory organization, and test-equipment availability.
- Partner with RF Design, Test, Systems, Quality, Manufacturing, Mechanical, and Program teams to resolve issues and align execution with requirements and program priorities.
- Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, test throughput, first-pass yield, repeatability, documentation, and laboratory workflow using practical performance measures.
Ideal Experience
- Associate degree or technical certificate in Electronics, RF Technology, Electromechanical Systems, or a related field, or equivalent military and industry training.
- Typically 7+ years of progressive experience in electronics, RF checkout, system integration, or engineering test, including at least 2 years leading, supervising, or serving as the technical lead for technicians.
- Demonstrated ability to plan work, set priorities, allocate resources, coach employees, and coordinate execution in a multi-program laboratory or production-test environment.
- Hands-on experience with RF checkout and measurements using VNAs, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs, and related equipment.
- Experience planning or executing environmental tests such as thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, vibration, or shock, including test setup, instrumentation, readiness, monitoring, and documentation.
