The talented innovators in Georgetown, IN are pioneering new microgravity research technologies, such as Bio-3D Printers capable of printing a meniscus in space, and a plant habitat on the ISS. These technologies will lead to creating organs with your DNA in them to avoid organ transplant rejection and the ability to adjust the science in plants so they thrive and grow in space. Summary
We are seeking a detail‑oriented and innovative Mechanical Designer to join our engineering and design team. In this role, you will support product development from concept through production, creating accurate models, drawings, and documentation that align with engineering standards and project requirements. Design, assemble and test machinery and equipment under direction of engineering and scientific staff.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings using CAD software
- Produce engineering documentation, including BOMs, revision updates, and technical specifications
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams
- Modify designs based on engineering input, testing results, or production feedback
- Ensure accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with industry standards
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to process and product improvements
- Support prototype builds, testing, and validation activities as needed
- Create and document test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method
- Work with other project members in a "team" atmosphere
- Identify potential manufacturing and/or assembly problems during product design and work to help solve them
- Be able to use basic and advanced shop tools
Ideal Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field
- Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD)
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles, GD&T
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, models, and specifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to create and manage spreadsheets, perform basic data analysis, and organize project data effectively
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
Desired Skills
- Experience designing for manufacturing (DFM)
- Familiarity with PLM systems
- Knowledge of materials, fabrication processes, and assembly methods
