We have a current opportunity for a Mechanical Test Engineer 1 to join our dynamic, multi-disciplinary team located at our facility in Albuquerque, NM. In this role you will be focused on developing satellite and launch vehicle mechanical and structural technologies. The ideal candidate is interested in an autonomous work environment where they contribute to projects through the entire product development cycle; beginning with initial concept generation through detailed design and analysis, hardware fabrication, and finally verification testing.
To be successful, the candidate doesn’t need to know all the answers but must have a willingness to learn and solve problems. This position will focus on developing state-of-the-art structures and mechanisms for satellites, launch vehicles, and missile defense applications. Specific products include multiple payload launch structures, deployable satellite antennas, ground support equipment, optical payloads, and spacecraft mechanisms
Summary
We have a current opportunity for a Mechanical Test Engineer 1 located at our facility in Albuquerque, NM. In this role you will support technical test team focusing on developmental, characterization and qualification level testing for novel spacecraft technologies. You will also design the test plans, hardware and scripts required to validate deliverable space-grade hardware. Ensuring mission success by validating our hardware will work as intended in the extreme environmental conditions of outer space after a turbulent launch assent. You will have the opportunity to work on projects of all sizes form small components to large payload adapters/dispensers.
Responsibilities
- Work on a testing team that devises testing plan, methods, and equipment to assure reliability of product in conjunction with product design and specifications
- Support engineering design review efforts
- Produces reports on each test activity and tracks test metrics
- Support failure analysis efforts including documentation, technical analysis, instruction, management briefing, and customer interaction
- Provide test area and facility with parameters for testing and specifies tests to be performed
- Perform analysis, diagnostics, and preliminary evaluations of products
- Develop testing procedures and plans, including environmental testing, regression testing, dynamic testing, and scripted automation testing
- Monitor for continual test process improvement through failure analysis, throughput analysis, yield analysis, and report to management periodically
- Must be able to travel to test facilities up to 10%. Out of state travel may be required
- Support in resolving divergent technical opinions within team and customers
- Support in determination and developing approaches to solutions of complex testing campaigns
Ideal Experience
- Bachelor's degree with 2+ years’ experience or MS in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Science) or related field
- Professional experience in aerospace test engineering or related field
- Experience with basic scripting and automation
- Experience writing test plans, procedures, and reports and or data packages
- Experience with environmental qualification testing for spacecraft components
- Ability to support testing outside of business hours including overnight and weekends on occasion
- US Citizenship required
Desired Skills
- Electrical testing experience. Ability to debug and deduce digital design issues with use of lab tools such as power supplies, scopes, and logic analyzers
- Experience with resource management and scheduling
- Experience and understanding of AS9100 industry standard practices
- Knowledge of thermal dynamics and/or thermal testing highly desired
- Prior experience and certification to drive a forklift is a plus
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles highly desired
- Experienced with frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, and theories
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Possess strong leadership skills and a resiliently positive attitude
- Knowledge of basic electrical design and theory
